As if in loved your work, you are still not immune from conflicts and time pressure — because perfect job, perfect superiors and colleagues simply do not exist. The consequence of difficult work situations becomes occupational stress.

Stress generally is a General (non-specific) physiological and/or psychological reaction to a certain situation. Stress is not always bad: it happens to be both "positive" (eustress) and "negative" (distress). But professional stress - a reaction to a difficult (unpleasant) working situation - refers to "bad" stress.

Occupational stress like any other stress, this is not just a psychological phenomenon. Our reaction to a stressful situation manifests itself physiologically in headaches, back pain, shoulder and neck fatigue and even weary. Under attack not only in the nervous system and body in General .

What is occupational stress?  The reasons may be different, but conditionally it can be divided into several groups.

  1. Physical causes. These include noise, vibration, polluted atmosphere, etc. to these causes of stress often collide, for example, workers, but physical factors cannot be ruled out completely in any case — even the radio loudly can cause stress.
  2. Physiological causes. Such reasons include inconvenient working hours (for example, work in shifts), no normal power mode at work. Such "bullying" the body reacts to the stress. And if you start to eat properly at work is feasible, then work with an inconvenient schedule may have to resign.
  3. Socio-psychological causes. Among these reasons — strained relations with staff, conflicts, mobbing. underload or overload of workers, high responsibility, lack of time, lack of clear distribution of roles and responsibilities.
  4. Structural and institutional causes. These reasons cause so called organizational stress. These include too high a pace of work and too tight deadlines for its implementation, the monotony of the work and the inability to influence the execution order of tasks.

Professional stress is dangerous for both the employee and the employer. Workers with prolonged occupational stress can "haunt" professional burnout

With stress at work need to fight. At the same time, do not think that professional stress is a problem solely with the employee. If the working conditions do not change, then the causes of stress, respectively, will not go anywhere. No psychologist can help if you are again and again exposed to stress factors.

So if the boss is interested in the fact that its employees performed their duties efficiently, it needs notice signs of stress in their subordinates and try to remove the causes, if possible. To a greater extent it concerns the social-psychological and structural-institutional reasons.

That can make the head to prevent occupational stress?  First of all, it is necessary to create a favorable organizational climate and give workers the opportunity to organize their work independently (let's say, determine the order of work performance). It is very important to clearly allocate responsibilities between employees - each of them should know what exactly is responsible for. Also, you need to make sure that the employees have the optimal amount of work, there was neither overload of work, nor underload.

If the chief do not care about the problems their employees, the only way to get rid of stress is to change jobs. Sometimes you have to completely change occupation. if the professional stress is caused not by the peculiarities of a specific work collective, but by the characteristics of the profession itself, from which you can not get anywhere.
