Cinnamon is one of the most popular spices. It is valued for its delicate flavor and taste, which is due to the content in cinnamon essential oil. Cinnamon oil found application not only in cooking but also in medicine, aromatherapy, cosmetics and perfumery.

Cinnamon essential oil (cinnamon oil) is contained in the bark, stems, leaves, and young branches of cinnamon. There two kinds of cinnamon oil - oil from the bark and oil from the leaves. Both types of oil have a pleasant smell of cinnamon and cloves, but the oil from the bark is brown, and the oil from the leaves is light yellow. For the production of oil, the distillation method is used.

Like other essential oils, cinnamon oil has antimicrobial properties. Cinnamon is also a natural antioxidant. In medicine, cinnamon oil is used to treat colds - extracts and essential oil of cinnamon are a part of many cold medicines.

Thus, cinnamon oil can be used for the treatment of colds, influenza, tracheitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia. Also this essential oil has a positive effect on the digestive tract  and is used for intestinal and gastric colic, diarrhea, loss of appetite. Still it is used as a remedy for nausea, dizziness, fainting. Women use this oil to harmonize the menstrual cycle.

Externally the oil of cinnamon is used to treat various skin diseases (fungal, scabies, warts, papilloma, pediculosis), insect bites, and for warming massage (for cellulite, rheumatism, etc.). The warming effect is achieved by the ability of cinnamon oil to enhance blood circulation. You can add cinnamon oil in water and use mouthwash after brushing your teeth for bad breath and gum disease (1-2 drops in a glass of warm water).

Warming aroma of cinnamon oil has a beneficial effect on the emotional sphere. It relaxes and soothes, helps to fight with a bad mood, creates an atmosphere of comfort and trust, promotes inspiration and encourages creativity. It is also believed that the aroma of cinnamon oil enhances sensuality and sexuality. Cinnamon oil can be used for asthenic conditions after a long illness.

Like any other essential oil, cinnamon oil do not use in large quantities. What dosage of essential oil should be used in different applications?

  • oil burner: 2 to 7 drops (depending on room size)
  • aromaméedalion: 2-3 drops;
  • aromatic oil bath: 10 drops (use an emulsifier: the cream, honey, sea salt, etc.), the duration is 10-20 minutes
  • inhalation: 3 drops, duration of procedure should be 3-5 minutes for hot inhalations, 5-7 minutes for a cold
  • enrichment of cosmetics: 2 drops to 5-15 g of product-the basics
  • the lubrication of the affected skin: 2-3 drops per 10 ml of base vegetable oil
  • massage: 3-4 drops in 20 ml carrier oil
  • ingestion: 1-2 drops in 1 teaspoon of honey or a Cup of warm herbal tea.

Applying cinnamon oil topically, it is important to remember that it cannot be used in its pure form. be sure to mix the essential oil with vegetable oil is the main, otherwise it can make the redness, burning, dryness. The only exception is the insect bites, but in this case the oil is applied point, solely on the bite.

Not recommended to use cinnamon essential oil  with increased sensitivity of the skin, individual intolerance, nervous exhaustion, as well as during pregnancy, with epilepsy, chemotherapeutic treatment of malignant tumors.

Aromatherapy is sometimes used combinations of different essential oils. It is worth remembering that cinnamon oil can be combined with orange oils. mandarin, ylang-ylang. eucalyptus, as well as mint and spruce, but it should not be mixed with patchouli oil.
